Telemetry Tips

Capture cleaner GoPro telemetry for more reliable overlays

Use this checklist when footage shows telemetry warnings, missing streams, or overlays that do not behave as expected.

Before you press record

  • Power on first, wait 10-20 seconds, then start recording.
  • Avoid QuickCapture for telemetry-critical shots.
  • Wait for a strong GPS lock when GPS overlays matter.
  • Keep the original camera file instead of exporting/re-encoding first.
  • Run a short outdoor test clip to verify telemetry quality.

Common causes of partial telemetry

  • Recording starts before sensors fully initialize.
  • No reliable GPS lock before capture.
  • Special capture modes can affect telemetry availability.
  • Edited/transcoded files can strip metadata.
  • Firmware issues may require update, reset, or reflash.
  • Some camera models have known telemetry limitations.

Habits that improve reliability

  • Give sensors startup time before every capture.
  • Prefer standard video modes for telemetry-critical sessions.
  • Use clear sky view for better GPS lock.
  • Keep camera firmware current and test after major updates.

Verify inside LiveLayer

  • Click the telemetry status pill after extraction completes.
  • Green indicates usable telemetry for overlays.
  • Warning means data exists but appears malformed or low confidence.
  • Export raw telemetry if you need to debug with support.
